County Council Elections.
We append the state of the poll at the booths in the various ridings of the Thames County :— WAIOTAHI. A. Brodie ... , 91 J. Coutts ... ... ... 74 C Hill ... ... ... 44 0. 8. Broun... 33 Majority for retiring councillors, 88; total number of votes, 242. KAUAERANGA. Bull 152 Deeble ... ... ... 135 Greenville ... 123 Comer (retired) ... ... 2 Majority for retiring councillors, 162; total number of votes, 412. HASTINGS. The result of the voting afc the two booths provided (Tararu and Hastings) was— Thorburn 38 Carran ... 33 Majority for retiring councillor, 5; total votes recorded, 71. PABAWAL After a very close contest between Messrs Carpenter and Murdoch, the latter gentleman headed the poll with a majority of 3. This shows not only the interest taken in the contest by both the candidates and their supporters, but also demonstrates the good estimation in which the unsuccessful candidate was held. The number of votes recorded was 85— Murdoch ... ... , 44 Carpenter ... ... „. 41 At the conclusion of the contest, Mr Carpenter said he was very sorry that he should have to sever his connection with a district which he had represented in the Council for a number of years. Still, as the electors considered Mr Murdoch a more desirable representative, and believed he would be better able to attend to the wants of the riding, they had a perfect right to elect him. He thanked the electors for the confidence formerly reposed in him. TOTAEA. Three polling booths were opened in this riding ;= one at Parawai where the result of the voting was— Bagnall ... ... ... 38 Smith ... 22 One at Puriri school where the numbers were— Bagnall ... 23 Smith ... 9 One at Turua (Bagna)l's Mills) where the following votes were taken— Bagnall ... ... ... 12 Smith ... ... ... 1 Majority for retiring councillor, 41; total number of votes recorded, 105. OHINEMUEL In the above riding, the polling booths were situated at Paeroa, Owharoa, and Waitekauri. One of. the councillors for this riding—Mr John Brown—retired.
