OUR MINES.
NEW GOLDEN CROWN. The winze on the No. 1 reef at battery ' level has been carried down about to the intermediate level, so work has been suspended, and the men put to driving from ' the inter me Jiate level on the course of the reef to intersect the winze. It is expected that about 40 feet of driving will do this, when good ventilation .will be secured to work the block of ground above the intermediate level. The reef, where driving has been started on it', is smaller than usual, but is of a fine class of quartz, carrying a deal of first class mineral, and also a quantity of pyrites, which is an excellent indication of gold. This reef has always paid well to work, and a party of tributers who were . working on a portion of it some time ago got excellent crushing dirt, some of which was worth sozs to the ton. A large block of ground still remains to be worked here, and from its appearance it should pay well to take out. The stopes on the No. 1 battery level reef continue to yield good crushing dirt. Stoping is also being pushed ahead on No. 2 reef, which continues to keep up its quality,. Themana- .' ger has started to rise from the drive of the footwall leader at the 100 ft level, on a number of stringers on the hanging-wall > of No. ] reef. The rise on the new leader ""* of the 100 feet level is also being pushed ahead. KURANUI HILL. The yield of gold for the past four weeks' operations was banked to-day; it amounted to 57ozs 9dwts. This shows a considerable improvement over last month's return, but is not so large as we would like, to see it. GOLD EETUENS. Albubnia.—McDonald and party have crushed 16 loads at the company's battery. for the return of 23ozs 3dwts gold. Victoby—Scott and party have banked 7oz 18dwts gold.
