In another column will be found the prospectus of the Thames and Rotorua Kail way Company. The advantages to follow the construction of tbe line, the objects of the promoters, and their reasons for undertaking the work,. are well and clearly set out in the advertise* ment. And there is considerable force in the remarks made, but we would be more impressed still if the proposals included a branch line from Morriusville to the Thames. We see little reason why the promoters should not include such a line in their proposals, except Ihe selfish and narrow consideration that the City of Auckland alone is to be benefited. The prospectus speaks of the aid which such a line of railway may be expected to give 10 the development of the resources of the provincial district of Auckland, yet if the promoters are in earnest, and desirous of assisting the development of the country, few things would be of greater benefit to Auckland, than opening up direct communication between the Thames Peninsula, Waikato, and the centre of the North Island. The attention of the promoters of th» Thames Valley and Rotorua Railway should be directed to this view of the question by our local governing bodies, for if the directors espect #«pport for tie
scheme on the Thames, by including our local line that support would be greatly increased.
