WAITEKAURI.
(fbom a coeeespokdent.) Waitekattbi, Nov. 5,1881. A retorting for Butler and party, will most likely take place next week, when k return, of ] 500 ounces is expected. The same party will .still keep twenty head of stampers going till Christmas. There is no change to report in this party's work* ings. Work is being vigorously carried on in the Waitekauri No. 3, under the super* vision of Mr Hacsen, and the shareholders can rest assured that their mine will be systematically worked by that gentleman. The quartz coming from this mine is still good, and should show up well at the battery.
A number of Thames gentlemen paid a visit to the Just in-Time mine to-day, and Mr Comes very obligingly opened his workings and showed the prospects in his reef. A quantity of stone was broken out, and the precious metal was easily seen in most of it. -Some of the largest stone was very good, and was pronounced by one of Butler's party to be richer than any stone they have obtained from their tribute. Mr Comes intends to, start work in earnest on Monday, and hopes to have a retorting before Christmas. The contractors in the City of Dublin are making poor headway with the drive, and find that their price is not good enough for the ground. A nice looking reef has been cut in the drive, but its value has not yet been tested.
The contractors in the Bonanza are making good progress now, having got into a fine class of country. They have had a hard bar of country to get through, which has made the work slow, but they should soon cut the reef now. The Just-in-Time reef is running direct for the Bonanza, and should be found without much work by that company. A geod reef is reported to have been found in Diamond Gully, and as that Gully has produced the richest Rold from Ohinemuri we may expect to hear of something good from that quarter. The store presented qnite a lively appearance to-day, owing to a good number of visitors from the Thames being present. Several good contracts are called for in some of the new leases, and wages have now risen to 9s per day.. L [By the above date it,will be seen that this letter has been rather Ion? in reaching us, but, nevertheless, it will be found interesting.—Ed.]
