North Shore Regatta.

The first North Shore Regatta was held yesterday under most favorable auspices. The following are the results of the principle races:— Tbading Cuttebs. Henry ... 1 Gannet ... 2 Tevoit 3 • Inbigged Gig Racb The entries were: Ponsonby: Finlay (stroke;, Scott (No. 3), Davis (No. 2), Edwards (No. 1), C. Hill (cox). North Shore: Sims (stroke), O'Connor (8), Greenwood (No. 2), and G. Niccol (No. 1), W. Sibbin (cox). Auckland: Smith (stroke), F. Leatham (No. 3), Mackinnon (No. 2). Ponsonby and North Shore pulled down to the inside of the North Head, and took up position there, the latter being on the outside. A good start was effected, and Ponsonby went away with the lead, pulling a smart swinging str?bke, while North Shore were rowing m<&<B steadily. Ponsonby men were evidently in good form, and evidently within themselves, and no one on the flagship would wager against them. North Shore dropped behind all the way up, and w hen tlie flagship was passed they were six or eight lengths astern. The lead had been increased when North Shore was passed, and the buoy off Calliope PoiDt was rounded by Ponsonby a long way ahead. The water at this time was very lumpy, and the boats could hardly be si en owing to the clouds of spray that enshrouded them. Coming down by the North Shore wharf, Ponsonby, which was still leading Vy a considerable distance, succumbed to the lumpy water. Their opponents passed them, aDd came down before the wind resting on their oars, and paddling at times. The accident to the Ponsonby crew excited general sympathy for them,, as they had been winning easily. They were picked up by a boat near the Tongariro. The race resulted : 3 North Shore ... ... ... 1 Ponsonby ... ... .-, 0 Auckland ... 0 Yachts and Fishing Boats.
