We are informed that the stuff for the trial crushing now being taken out in the Young Colonial,-Waihi, is looking well, and is being bagged for transit to the battery ai Owharoa.
The date of a general election will not bs definitely fixed, or writs issued until the result of Saturday's affair is known, as should anything serious come of that event, it might be necessary to summon Parliament at once. Should all go well the writs will most likely be issued next Monday or Tuesdsy, fixing the date of the election for about the 7th or Bth of December. This of cour.se must not be taken as authorative, as erents might involve more or less change of plan.—Herald.
A MEETING of the ratepayers of the Kauaeranga riding was held last night in St. Q-eorge'a school. The meeting was called by Mr W. D eble, a candidate for the representation of the Kauneranga riding. Mr R. T. Douglas occupied the Chair. Mr Deeble gave a lengthy account of his stewardship. He referred to the exertions of himself and his colleagues on behalf of the ratepayers. A number of.questions were asked, all of which Mr Deeble answered, after which Mr Arbury moved, and Mr Nicholas seconded—'• Thar, having beard Mr Deeble, we thank him for his addro-8, and have full confidence in him as one of our representatives for the Ktuseranga Biding;" The motion was carried aloicst unanimously.

In an article on the Governor and the Minister?, the Herald says: —It is with no feeling adverse to His Excellency or from any want of respect that we urge upon the Government to reject any personal action on the part of the Governor with regard to Parihaka. No one, however, exalted his position, should be allowed to come between the Government and the Maoris, and only by adhering to that rule can the authority of Ministers and Parliament be properly maintained and the Maoris acquire the conviction that nowhere else is auy to be found.

Thb smart schooner Mary Ogilvy, Captain Connor, arrived here yesterday afternoon from Dunedin via Oamaru, after a fair run of nine daye from the latter port. She brings a full cargo ol fljur and produce consigned to various local tradesmen. M. Browne and Co, are agents for the ressel.
