Melbourne, Tuesday. The Melbourne Cup. The above race was run with the following result :— Zulu ..., 1 Czar ... ... - ... ... 2 Sweetmeat ... ... ... 3 The starters were —Sweetmeat, Wellington, Savanaka, First Water, Sir Modred, Suwarrow, Lord Burleigh, Odd Trick, Waterloo, Bathurst, Canary, Wandering Jew, Trump Yoss, Daredin, Pawnbroker, Bandalbion, Czar, Wheatear, Somnus, Orient, Pollio, Guinea, Carmen, Waxy, Greyhound, Santa Claus, Duchess, Cockney, Zulu, and Idalia. In the race for the Melbourne Cup, Somnus cut out the running for the first three-quarters of a mile, followed by Somnus (sic) and Zulu ; at three-quarters of a mile from home, Zulu took the lead, and was never caught, winning the race by two lengths. The time was 2mins 32|secs. The members of the betting ring win considerably by Zulu's victory for the Cup. _^
