Messrs Londtn and Haybittle's general store, and- tbe premises of Messrs Bradley and Drummond, at Fielding were destroyed by fire last evening. No particulars as to tbe origin has yet reached town. London and Haybittle's stock was valued at £4000, and is insured for £1000 in the South British (half reinsured); the building for £600 in New Zealand. The Standard have a lien of £1300 on London's stock, half of which is reinsured.
The Wakatipu arrived from Sydney at 6.30 this morning, but the launch has not yet returned from the quarantine station.
An influential meeting of the promoters of the Catholic Endowment Association was held last night, and from the support received from influential citizens in all parts of the colony it was decided to at once float the Company, and resolutions were passed to that effect. Bishop Bedwood presided.
The Wakatipu was admitted to pratique at noon, but some passengers who refused to be vaccinated were left at the quarantine station, and will remain there for ten days.
