The manager reports on the 22nd October :•—" There is nothing of any consequence to report on the various points now in operation throughout the mine since my last. Work is going on favorably, and with about the same result as it has done for some time past.—J. G-. Tivian." CALEDONIAN. Crushing was started thismorninj: with ten head of stamps at the Herald battery on the trial lot irom the drives on No 1 lode, above No. 2 level.. The stone is of a much softer character than that lately crushed from No. 1 reef, and is likely to prove payable. QUEEN OF BEAUTY. A late report of the manager says:— " During the week before last we received intimation from the couuty authorities that the water power would bo stopped for 24 hours, and I accordingly had the engine overhauled and repaired. It is now running the pumps at 12 strokes per minute with easy firing. When the turbine wheel was uncovered it was found that tbe wheel plate was broken, and a new wheel has now been fitted. The contractors for stripping the pump shaft have done 18 feet f during the fortnight. We are now down to the .level of floor of No. 7 platt, and will have in all th« timber in the shaft, and be cutting chamber for cistern next week. The water is now down to four feet below No. 7 level in the shaft.— Geobge Black."
