A VOICE FROM COROMANDEL.

(To the Editor of the Evening Star)

Sib,—For. years Coromandel made a claim upon the House of Representatives for a member, and I must admit that the Thames people always backed up the claim of the residents of this part of the peninsula, Now, however, that Coromandel is allowed a member, why- is it that a Thames man comes forward and attempts to secure the seat. I ask, Is it fair? Is it at all just that a resident of the Thames, and the Chairman of a rival county should/represent the people of Coromandel proper ? Puttiog Slock 27 into our electorate does not make it a portion of Coromandel, for there is no community of interests. Let the Thames people be generous, keep their local men to themselves, and if auy begging is to be done, we can find " sturdy beggars " for ourselves to do it. We want a local man and if the Thames people take a generous view of the matter .they will assist us to get one of our own residents into the House of Representatives. About the other candidates we don't think much of them, and can easily settle account's with them, but we do appeal to the residents of the Thames not to take advantage of the scheming and plotting that put a portion of their district into our electorate, in order to serve party purposes. We have a County Chairman of our own, and can afford to jet you keep yours ; we are not at all anxious to change men. —I am &c, Kapanga.
