This day
Two cottages at South Dunedin have been burned down. The insurances were £75 in the North British, and £100 in the Northern.
The bush ike on tho "eniusula on Friday is affirioed by tlie oldest settlers to be the severest known to them. Large areas of bush, miles of fencing, and a number of buildings have been totally destroyed, and thousands of pounds worth of property lost. The Harbor Cheese Factory, which was among the buildings burned, was insured in the Norwich Union for £150.

The missing schooner Ow'aka was insured in the National Company for £1000. Her crew consisted of a master and John Lang, Charles Close, J.McAlpine, and James Jiamsay. Her cargo was wholly coal.
