NEW GOLDEN CROWN.

At the surface level of this claim stoping is being carried on upon the footwali leader. At the battery level operations on the hanging wall rqef are still suspended, and the men are engaged in sicking the winze on the No. 1 main reef. This winze is going down on the site of an old winze put down some years ago, which it crosses in an easterly direction. The winze is down about 15 feet at present, and in about another ten feet or so it will be clear from the old winze'altogether, and in solid country. By sinking in this direction the manager hopes to come upon the end of the drive put in at the intermediate level on the footwali leader, and from there he will have a good block to stope out, not only on the footwali leader, but also on the main reef, which was never properly stoped? The quartz now coming to hand from the winze is of a favorable nature, though it is necessarily rather rubbly at present, owing to the collapse of the old winze. The stopes on the No. 1 battery level reef continue to produce good crushing dirt, the stone being well mineralised. The stopes on .No. 2 reef are also .being pushed ahead as quickly as possible. The reef proper is about IS inches thick, but there are a number of stringers between it and the No. 1 reef, and as these are payable, they are being taken down and sent to the mill. The quartz here is heavily mineralised, containing a deal of antimony, and also a little ruby silver. It will perhaps be remembered by our readers that sume excellent gold was obtained. from this reef at the 'battery level, near the slide, about a year, ago, and the manager thinks he will get.some more when the stopes are a little further advanced. The reef near the slide at the 100 ft level looks exceedingly promising, and the minerals are even more favourable than where is now being worked on. The work of cleaning out and repairing the old cross-cut towards the Manakau ground is still going on, but as yet none of the leaders or stringers have been broken down. The, rise on the new leader is in a good class of country, and the leader looks excellent.
