The Late William Atkin.

Some days ago our Auckland telegrams conveyed to us the unwelcome news that Mr Wra. Atkin, printer, of High street, Aucklaud, when returning from a meeting of the Synod, was suddenly sjtruck by paralysis. Since the attack his medical attendants expressed hopes that a little time would restore their patient to health again, but yesterday afternoon the symptoms suddenly changed tor the worse, and Mr Atkin expired at one o'clock. Mr Atkiu was a native of Newcastle, Knglaud, where he was in business for a number of years as a stationer and printer, holding Government contracts. He came to JNew Zealand 23 years ago, in the ship Zealandia, and commenced business in Auckland. He prospered well, and in course of time employed a comparatively large staff' on jobbing work. He took no prominent part in public matters, but was a member of the Masonic body. His family, consisting of tivo sous and several daughters, have all grown up, and one daughter, it may be stated, is married to Captain Parker, of the ship Halcione. Few persons were more respected than the deceased, who in all relations of life was acknowledged to be a most conscientious, upright and honorable man. He was highly respected-by all who knew him, aud was of a taost affectionate nature, dearly loved by his family and esteemed by his.iriends. He lived in peace with all men, and will die regretted by all who kfjaw him, and be mouraed for as a loss to society, and missed as all honest and good men are.
