NEW GOLDEN CROWN.

At the battery level work on the hangingwall leader has been temporarily suspended, and the men put to sinking a winze on the JNo. 1 main reef near its junction with the footwall leader. A winze was sunk at this point some years ago, but it his collapsed,: and the new winze is going down upon it. When the old winze was put down, all the quartz was not taken out, about three feet being left. This is now being taken out, and the quartz looks very, well for gold. The junction of the footwall reef has not yet been come upon, but the manager expects to get it before long. The stopes from the 100 feet level'on Noa. 1 and 2 battery level reefs continue to yield good quartz, and about twenty or thirty pounds of fair picked stone hare come to have during the week; At the 100 feet level a rise.is. being put up on the new lead lately come upon, and though but little gold has been seen in the stone, it looks promising, being well mineralised. The old crosscut from this level towards the Manakau ground is being put into repair, preparatory to starting operations on a number of promising droppers from No. 1 reef. CALEDONIAN. :At the No 1 level the No 2 reef in drive east from crosscut maintains its good appearance, especially the footwall portion. The view of mineral referred to in my last report is still visible, and a larger per centage of copper is now visible in it than formerly. The reef" also continues to carry a large per centage of antimony, ruby silver, and copper, and the manager is of opinion that the precious metal is not far away. A few colours of gold are seen in breaking down, and the quartz is being saved for crushing. Driving on, the No 1 reef from, the old crosscut is being carried on, and the west drive is now in 12 feet, and the east one 16. The quarti from here is also being saved. The manager has started to clean out an old drive towards the New Golden Crown, which was put in on a small leader some years ago by Mr .Richards The leader is about 5 or 6 inches thick, and of promising appearance, but until it is further opened up an opinion cannot be formed as to its value.

CURE

Since Mr George Clark was appointed manager of this mine, lie has confined his operations to stoping on the lead which he himself worked while a tributer, and driving on a leader crossing at right angles. In the stopes, the leader is about an inch thick, and will probably yield good crushing dirt. The country here is full of small veins, nearly all of which contain a percentage of gold, though owing to their small size, a deal of labour is expended in .getting a comparatively small crushing out. In driving on the cross'lead northward the manager experts to cut the lead worked some time ago by; Brownlee, and at the junction he; fee's sure he will get some gold. In driving southward, he mil, in a few feet, break through into the old stbpes on No. 4 lead, which, when worked some time ago; gave excellent yields. He hopes to pick up the cross lead after it'passes through No. 4, and if be does so, there will be a good block of ground which should prove remunerative to take out before the stopes on No. 5 lead are broken into. We think the company have acted wisely in appointing Mr Clark to the management. ' ' ■'' '.'■'■■. /"'■'' r "■'■ , OLD GOLDEN CALF. The company cleaned up to day, the return being 25ozs ldwt gold, for which 80 loads of stuff were put through.
