POLITICAL REVIEW.

Paris, Ist August, 1881.

Another Tunistan camp has been formed in the neighborhood of the Bardo. It will shortly proceed to Kairwan and the interior of the country under the command of AU Bey and Mobaraed Zarroum, formerly Minister of War, and now Lieutenant to Ali Bey. BouAmena is in Ain-Melah, or Mmif. It is now officially stated that the Brunetiere column, in pursuing BouAmena, compelled him to retreat after threatening the Ilarrars. Messengers from Saida report that almost an entire convoy, with considerable booty, has been wrested from the so-called Marabut, under his very nose, this coup de main being attributed to Si Sliman. This news is received with doubt, but it is quite probable that the Ilxmyans may have carried out the raid on their own account, independently of Si Sliman's authority. , Ii is rumored that the island of Djerba has been occupied by the French troops. A difference has arisen between the French and Spanish Governments relative to the indemnity claimed by the Cabinet of Madrid for Spanish subjects who have suffered losses by the Arab insurrection in the region of Saida. The Republican Government claims to set off against these demands the compensation due to French citizens whose property was taken or destroyed during the last Carlist insurrection in Spain, but the Spanish Cabinet refuses to admit its liability. ■■-. The communications on the subject are, however, conducted in a most friendly manner, and have not prevented the French Ambassador from returning to France on leave.of absence.
