Sir Stafford Northeote made a speech to-day at Hull, in the course of which he expressed the opinion that it was necessary for Government to take vigorous measures to prevent the league doing anything to nullify the effect of the Irish Land Act.

A telegram has been received from Tunis reporting that the rebel Arabs have made an attack upon, and completely destroyed, the station at Ould Zergba, on the Tunis-Algerian Bailway ; they are further reported to have massacred all the officials at the station.

The Times to-day publishes a paragraph stating that it has received information to the effect that the Indian Government has decided to withdraw the troops now stationed at Chaman and Khojuk Pass in Southern Afghanistan, and that it is further intended to largely reduce the garrison at Quettah, but that the troops in the Pisheeu Valley will be retained there for the present
Athens, October 3,
Intelligence has been received that a dispute in the transfer of territory in Thessaly re the Greece difficulty has arisen ou the frontier. The Turks are obstructing the occupation of the territory by the Greeks, and it is apprehended that some fresh trouble may arise.
Constantinople October 3
It has transpired that the Sultan, withont consulting his Cabinet, has sent a special mission to Egypt to inquire into the crisis which occurred in that country last month.
