THIS DAY. I (Before H. Keurick, Esq., E.M.) CABEY T. A. HUME. Mr Miller asked that the evidence of a witness might be taken in this case, as it wa9 difficult to get at the witness. The case was a claim for compensation for dismissal without notice. Angus Koss, sworn, deposed,—that he was the master of the sleamer Blauche, and took charge on the 14th September last. The agreement was for one mouth, i He was to find an engineer and a boy. He knew plaintiff, who was engineer for the previous charterers. Plaintiff came to him on the morning of the 14th ult. on board the Blanche, and asked witness if he was to remain in the. boat as engineer. Witness replied that he could not give ! an answer then, but would let him know later on. Plaintiff' then said he thought he had a right to remain on the boat, as he had been there six months, and witness gave the same reply as previously. Plaintiff then went and told Mr Hume in witness's hearing that it appeared as if he had already engaged another engineer. Witness denied this, and plaintiff then said he would not go with witness for £20 per month. Plaintiff left the boat of bis own accord, and was not discharged. Plaintiff never told witness that he had been engaged as engineer by the owner of the boat. Court adjourned.
