WAITEKAURI.
[FBOM A. COBBESPONJDENI.]
Waitekauei, Sept. 23rd, 1881. According to promise, Isend you a few notes upon the mines in this district. Butler and party^ are getting splendid stove still, and the gold is best on the floor of the drive. The Waitekauri extended is under Butler's tribute, and promises to be a rich piece of ground. The reef averages three feet thick: Hollis and parly have the surface portion of this reef on tribute and are also getting splendid stuff. They have about 100 tons in their paddock, and will start sending it to the battery on Tuesday next. «The battery will start in a few days and you can expect to hear of rich returns fora good while. . The Moonstone claim is situated on the western side of the Waitekauri Extended, and "should get the underlay of that company's reef. Work will be started 1 shortly in this ground, and as it stands in a good position, good results should bo obtained. A rich find is reported iv the Just iv
Time claim, adjoining the Bonanza. I have seen some of the stone from it which was very good. The reef is in a splendid position for working, and handy to the tramway. Tne find has caused a good deal of excitement up here, as the reef has never been prospected before.
The Bonanza claim is situated on the south end of the Witekauri mine, and comprises 36 men's ground. Work has been carried on in this mine for the last two months. The drive is now in 120 feet, and the reef should bo met with very soon. Good prospects have Been obtained on the surface of the reef and should the prospects be as good in the drive, this mine will be one of the best here. The Just in Time reef runs through this ground.
The City of Dublin claim is situated on the eastern side of the Waitekauri mine, and will soon be vigorously worked by a good company. Hich stone has been found ou the surface of this claim, but very little work has been done to find the reef. Active operations will be started in most of the leases soon, and until then very little more can be said about the district.
