Weiliinjtoh, Yesterdays The Speaker ruled that the following bills, referred to a committee last night, had lapsed, owing to there being no House to receive the report of the committee :--Municipal Corporation Amendment, Miners' Bights Reduction, Harbor Act Amendment, Auckland University College, Surveyors' Institute Bill, and Government Library Subsidy .Resolution. —Replying to questions, it was stated a railway as far north as Waikari was under contract, and would be ready for traffic in January. Surveys, for the continuation of the line to Hurunui are being completed.—Government would not promise to introduce next session a bill dealing with the honorarium question.— Government would not return" to British pensioners tbe sums taken from them in payment of the stamp on their pension.— The following bills were read a second

time:—Stamp Act Amendment, Property ' Amendment, Deceased Persons' Estate Duty, and Animals Protection Act Amendment.—The House adjourned. ' The House resumed at 7.3o.—The

following bills, hating passed through committee, were read a third time and passed :—The Property Assessment, Deceased Persons' Estates Duty, Annual Protection Act Amendment.—On the motion for further consideration of the

East Coast Land District Bill, Mr Moss protested against the bill as an endeavor to take land out of the Auckland Provin« cial district and place it under the administration of Hawke's Bay. He would oppose the bill being further considered.—Sir George Grey and Mr George also opposed, and Mr Kolleston defended the bill.—The House divided on

the question for going into Committee presently: Ayes, 34; noes, 21. —In Committee of the whole, a resolution of the Debates Committee, recommending a bonus of £25 to Hansard reporters for their extra labours of the session, was agreed to.—Mr Shrimski announced that

the joint conference on the Pensions Bill had been unable to agree. He understood that if certain objectionable clauses were omitted in a new bill, the Attorney. General would undertake to get it'through the Upper House without objections. Acting on the suggestion of the Premier, he gave notice of his intention to introduce an Amended Pensions Bill tomorrow.—The amendments by the Legislative Council in the Thermal Spring District Bill were considered.—Major Harris moved an adjournment until tomorrow—ayes, 12"; noes, 40.—The motion for adopting the amendment was put and carried.—The following bills, on the "motion of Mr Hall, were withdrawn: Stamp Act 1875 Amendment, Companies, Public Works, Hospital and Charitable Aids, Roads • Construction, Crown and Native Lands Bating, and Sharebrokers Act Kepeal Bills.—ln Committee, the East Coast Lands Bill was further considered.—ln Committee, Mr Moss moved that progress be reported to which the Government eventually agreed, and the motion was carried,

The Customs and Excise Duties Bill was introduced by Major Atkinson, and read a first time.

Bill, in order to excise the proviso inserted previously, limiting each elector to two votes. He said when that was carried many members had not heard the division bell rung. After considerable discussion a motion to adjourn the debate was lost by 33 to 22, and the re-committal was carried by 25 to 15. In Committee a further discussion took place, and ultimately progress was reported, and the House rose at 1.20..
