From a return laid 1 before Parliament yesterday it appears that the land on which the Government Buildings are erected cost for reclamation £3724 16s, aud that the amount paid to the contractor for reclaiming the remainder of Thorndon reclamation was £56,787 3s 6d. Amount received by the Government for the portion sold has been £82,888 13s Id ; the area reclaimed was 49 acres, 1 rood, 8 perches.

Tae following is the text of letters sent to Sir Julius Vogel on, receipt of the' suppressed despatch : —" iSew Zealand Colonial Secretary's Office, Wellington, 6th Juue, 1881.—Sir,—I am directed to acknowledge the* receipt by last San Francisco mail of your letter of the 27th A^ril last, directed to the Premier. "The tone of this letter is so studiously off en give, and it contains so many misrepresentations and mistakes that the Government refuse to permit it to be filed as a record of the Colony, and I am therefore directed to return it to you.—l am, etc., G.
