The discussion in the House to-day was chiefly upon the Thermal Springs District Bill, a measure introduced to secure for the State the Hot Springs district, in the Taupo County. This subject engaged the attention of the late Government, and Sir George Grey has, on more than one occasion, referred to the desirability of means being taken to prevent the Hot Springs of JRotomahana falling into the hands of private speculators, believing the.greatest part of the Taupo district should, be the property of the State, and retained for the use of the public at large.
