In these colonies those excesses which we have indulged in " hot youth " tell upon us with fearful interest.

Our regrets are useless, our repining futile. The sole idea should be the chance we possess of remedying the ills we already have, for combatting the effects likely to result. Hide it as he may, put on as good an extoiiar as he can, still is the victim conscious that he is a liviug lie, and that soana? or later his vices will discover him to the world. Our Faith, our obligations to Bociety at large, the welfare of our'future offspring, and the duty, ■we owe to ouraelves forbids procrastination, and points out to us, not to wait till the ravages break out in our constitutions.

Belore negotiating with a merchant, before engugiug with a confidential clerk j before employing a barrister, a careful man makes enquiries as their standing, their length of occupancy or residence j and, in the case of a legal advisor, both as to his legal qualifications and as to his capabilities of transacting the individual business he consults him upon. Strange to say, however, in the selection of medicul man, the Buflerer frequently omits these necessary precautions aad without regard to the litneßs, qualification experience and ability for the particular ailment requiring treatment, he consults the nearest mant whose experience and practice, perhaps, ließ in quite an opposite direction.

Is it astonishing that so many are driven mad, are ruined in health, and are bankrupt in spirits, hope and money ? Have I not for years pointed out to them that I, Br L. L. Smith, am the only legally qualified medical man advertising in the Colonies ? Have I not also prosecuted, at my own expense, these very quacks, and exposed the various nostrums they are soiling,—buoli as Phosphodyne Esaenoe of Life, &0,~- and had them analysed and found them to consist of "Burnt Sugar and flavoring matter," and the certificates 3 have peoved to be all forgeries. It is for this reason that I step out of the ethics of the profession and advertise, to gi?9 ihoae who require the services 6f my branch an opportunity of knowjm* tiiey can consult a legally qualified, isj&n, and one, moreover, who has made this his especial study.
