Priso Firing.

The St. George's Natal Cadets competed for prizes this morning at the Goreremenfc range—a medal presented by Mr McLaren, and a smoking-cap and pair of watch-pockets by Miss Houghtou. The ranaes were 200, 300, and 400 yards, fire shots at each range. We have a good tree library, and what is more a civil librarian, and what is more still, we open it on Sundays—not the librarian, of' course. It is a great boon, and considerably reduces the size of Monday morning's drunk list at the Police Court. There are rumors of a new evening paper being started here, and Mr G. M. Heed's name is mixed up with the stories that are going the rounds. I don't know whether or no there is any truth-in'it, but of this I feel certain an enormous amount of capital would require to be expended before such a venture got a footing anything like equal to that' enjoyed by the Auckland Star.
