Some time since, the original owners of a claim at Waibi made a present of two shares to the friend of one ot them. Yesterday hearing that shares in the claim were for sale and having great faith in ita future value, two of the owners purchased the shares, and on receipt of transfer this morning; lo and behold to their great astonishment, they find they have purchased the two shares formerly given away. They don't think they will give nny more away. Mb Angove, of the Beach, road, has had a laading stage erected from the end of Amy street across the intake and to the railway embankment. The stage will be a great convenience to persons living ia the locality, and Mr Angove, the popular proprietor of the Bay View Hotel deserves credit for his enterprise in erecting the bridge and landing stage. As usual, laßfc night's ooncerb given by the Thamea Scottish Band in the Academy of Music waa well attondod. The programme was a varied one, and was much appreciated These concerts are now accepted as one of our institutions, and are looked forward to with pleasure by many pei sons. Yet there is not enough of the promeaado character about tbem ; perhaps it ia that.,;too many chairs are provided. It might, perhaps, be worth a trial if the band were to play on the stage, aud allow the body of the hall for the promenaders, the band occupying so much room, perhaps prevents ladies from walking about and enjoying a chat with their friends.
Messes Gardner and StodarO have sent us a copy of tho first number of the Auckland Penny Time Table, published by them yostsrduy. The little book consists of 20 page?, each alternate page giving the time tables of Borne railway line, steam- ferry, mail service, Union line, or city and suburban line of coaches, while advertisements occupy the remaining space. A great deal of information is given, and the cost is bnt one penny. We have little doubt but the pamphlet, which is to be published monthly, will find a ready sale. It has transpired that the skeleton keys in the possession of Eendle, tho poßb office official of Napier, will open the door of one of the banks, and also the leading mercantile houses. Two put of three safeß in the latter instance could also be opened, but fortunatelj all cash was in a third Bafe. The bank safe could not be opened. Whether Rondel had any designs on those establishments is of course only a matter of conjecture. Five per cent, allowed on all outstanding accounts paid in during the next three weeks. August 13th 1881. D. CLOOifAir, late Cobgrave and Co.—[Advt.]
