The Premier was most outspokeu in his remarks last night, when replying to Sir George Grey. The question at issue at (he present was in his opinion of more importance than the passing of the .Representation Bill. The position taken up by the Opposition was whether a small minority of headstrong men were to be allowed to coerce t\\o majority and rule the House. Such being the object of the obstructionists, the Premier said tiie Government were determined that no other business would be ailowed to be brought on till the Representation Bill became Jhw, which either means an indiscreet and empty boast on the part of the Premier, or the expression of the intentions of the majority on whose behalf he represented himself as speaking. It would therefore appear as if a direct trial of strength was imminent, and that at an early date ; for from Mr Hall's speech, it may be gathered that great annoyance is felt by the Government and a large section of the House at the conduct of the stonewallers. It is, however, just possible that " the expression of sympathy with tiie Nelson raecjbfrs, and the hint that if any reasonable demand had been made the Government would have been prepared to hare met it, in appreciation of services rendered by the representatives of Sleepy Hollow, may have the effect of damping the ardour of the obstructionists, and the compromise which Mr Hall says is not possible, may be brought about. Should such happen, it will scarcely secure the passing of the Bill, for other districts may want concessions, and so the Government, instead of having one devil to fight, may gather arcund them seven evil spirits in the shape of members claiming for special concessions for particular localities.
