OUR MINES.

CALEDONIAN,

The manager reports as follows:-— " There is very little change to report generally in tin* mine. No 1 level, east drive, has been driven 14 feet this last fortnight, with no change of consequence. The west drive has been driven 6 feet only with the same result. The rise has beea risen 10| feet for the fortnight. Still ou the hangingwall of No 2 reef. Shall not break into is until I get up some 40 or 50 feet. Clearing out of cross-cut from old stopes progressing very slowly. I have crushed six loads of quartz from the underhand stopes, Young American, leader, for the poor yield of siwts per load—no good; also six loads from winze No. 3 level, got some time ago, only yielding 7dwt per load ; one load from the leader in the crosscut now clearing out, for lSdvrts, and two loads from the east drive, No. 1 level, which yielded 3ozs of retorted gold; but I thiuk there has beeu a mixture of the different parcels, and this latter yield cannot bo relied on. I am now engaged breaking out another trial from here to ascertain its correctness. If this should prove correct, we have something worth while.—T. B. Hicks."

GOLD EETUHNS. West Coast.—The return of 106ozs 4dwts gold, published in last night's issue as the result of Wetherall's crushing, was not correct, it being the return of a crushing of 19 loads for Northey and party. Wetherall's crushing yielded 25oas ISdwts gold.

New Golden Crown.—During the last month, 350 tons of general stuff hare been put through the company's battery, and cleaning up took place yesterday. The amalgam was retorted to-day, the yield of gold being 304£ozs. Old Golden Calf.—Cleaning up for this mine took place at the Queen of Beauty battery yesterday, and the yield of amalgam from about 60 loads of quartz was retorted this morning* The result was 42ozs 3dwts gold.
