At llie inquest ou JJewar a verdict of manslaughter was returned against Skerret, alias Black.
A large public meeting was held last night to consider the dry dock question. The Mayor presided, aud the following resolutions were carried unanimously : — " That a dock suitable for vessels of every class should ho erected, without; delay, in Wellington, and thai this port, not having this requisition and accomodation for shipping it is detrimental not only to the interest of Wellington, but those of the Colony at large. That Wellington possesses every advantage and natural facility for such a work, her port being centrally situated in the colony and possessing one of the jioblest and finest harbors in the world, placed on the right road of commerce between Australia and the European and American Continents." " That both Harbor Board and City Council heartily join together in forming a dry 'Jock iv council ion with the Te Aro reclamation, aud that both works should commenced as • soon as possible."
