The Evening Star. PUBLISHED DAILY AT FOUR P.M. Resurrexi. TUESDAY, AUGUST 30, 1881.

The stonewallers are still at work, and last night were successful in preventing any business being transacted. A correspondent says a most elaborate plan of stonewalling is being organised by the Nelson party. The pJ,an is to constantly move adjournments, and then talk out the motion till 12 30, aftfcr which no new business can be brought forward. This course, our telegrams of today state, was successfully carried out last night. We cannot see how this line of action is going to benefit tb.p Nelson men, except it may intimidate the Government into granting them more liberal terms in the Eedistribution of Seats' Bill. Should the Premier agree to their demands, it will, however, sound the death knell of the bill, for each district would probably follow a similar course, till its demands were granted. We cannot think the Government will be coerced by a section of the House, while the consolidated party of the c^outh can secure a majority in favor of the measure. It is doubtful if Mr Hall's clSture expedient will meet the difficulty. We said in a previous article sucli a course was uncalled for, and if the House refuses to accept the Premier's suggestions, prestige will be lost, instead of a victory being gained over the obstructionists. The end must, however, be with the Government and their large majority, and the Nelson men should at once show their good sense, end their obstructive policy, having made their protest, and try by fair constitutional means to secure their desires.
