OUR MINES.
ALBUftNIA.
The manager reports on the 24tb August as follows :-^v' New Low Level : As mentioned in roy last report the ground became Tery bard after passing through the small reef ; it still continues so, and consf quently but little headway has been made. Sons of Freedom Tunnel: This drive is still being extended, leaving now only a distance of 25 feet to reach the Alburnia boundary. 160 feet level: This winze is still being sunk,, as I inlormed you the back reef has died out, and in breaking down the reef last time, it showed every sign of great improvement, it being heavily impregnated with minerals which generally accompany gold in this reef. 70 feet level; The winze on hanging-wall leader is now nearly down the required depth, and as soon as Mr Bayldon returns I will ascertain at what point in the crosscut we must start to drive in order to meet with it on 160 feet level. As soon as this is accomplished, and drives opened out, I hope to be in a position to have better returns than latterly, as this winze will have been sunk a depth of 100 feet on a leader, which has shewn a little gold the entire distance. Stoping has been carried on here and on battery level with similar results to those last reported. Whau level: As mentioned in my last, I have started to drive on the Success reef. I find that in-driving the reef appears to improve in both size"and appearance, and when I have: a sufficient quantity for a fair test I will have a trial crushing, which I trust will prove payable. Should it do so, this will open up a large extent of ground in a locality hitherto proved to be Tery productive, and from whence good returns of gold have been obtained. — Thos. Badfoed."
