A crowded public meeting was held last night at the Masonic Hotel for the purpose of expressing sympathy with the persecuted Jews in .Russia, and raising funds for their assistance. Resolutions were passed in accord with the object of the meeting, and a comnittee was formed to collect subscriptions, and over £1000 were subscribed in the room,

la the actmh Miles v Mcllwraith the plaintifl's case was concluded last night, when the defendant's counsel applied for a nonsuit. The Judge, however, decided to allow the case to t>o to the jury. The trial has beeu^. resumed to-day, and the defendant's case is now proceeding.
