It will be seen that Mr'Allom, Eegistrar of Electors, has set about clearing the electoral roll of the names of persons who have no claim to have them there. The course taken by Mr Allom is under the 18th section of the Act, and while it is a roundabout way, it is at the same time a most effective one, and a fair and just one to the individuals concerned. Besides taking names off the roll, and so purging it, Mr Allom's duty is to place the names of all qualified persons upon it, when application has been made to him in that direction. Yet the apathy shown by electors is such that Mr Allorn has had comparatively very little trouble up to the present, there being not more than 150 names added since the rolls were last printed. It is to be presumed that with a general election not very far distant that a little more interest will be manifested in this matter. In a previous article we stated that forms under the Act were to bo obtained at our office, but up to the present very few have been inquired for. Yet we are aware that there are hundreds of persons resident within the Borough whose pames are absent from the present roll. The residential qualification under the Act is a simple one, and it is only necessary that the person claiming to be put on the roll has resided in the colony of New Zealand twelve months, and within this district the six months immediately preceding the claim for registration. The form has then to be signed in the presence of an elector of the district aud addressed to Mr Allom, tbe liegistrar.
