The Colonial Treasurer of South Australia has announced the intention of abolishing the duty on tea, coffi-e, cocoa, chocolate, cornsacks and woolpacks, and the imposition of a tax of 6d in the pound on land and property. If our Legislators would follow suit, the solution of some of the vexed questions at present before them would be greatly facilitated. The land with a tax of 6d upon it would not be so much sought after, and a remission of the customs duty would tend to relieve the poorer classes The questions of taxing the land in this colony must before very long secure the attention of Parliament, notwithstanding the oppo sition of the present Ministry, and if such a tax is imposed, or the Property Tax increased, there is nothing to prevent a reduction taking place in the customs duties levied on the necessaries of life.
