AUCKLAND.
This day. Mrs Sandel, a resident of East Newton, died suddenly on Saturday. She was observed by a child of one of her neigh bors lying on the floor of her own house, with her head against the wall, the strange position attracting the attention of the child, who informed her mother. She, with some other neighbors, went to see what was the matter, and found Mrs Sandel unconscious, and apparently dead. A messenger wias despatched tor Dr Hooper, who arrived soon afterwards, and at once pronounced life extinct. The deceased has for a considerable number of years been subject to fits, and it is supposed that one of these was the immediate cause of death.
Montgomery, formerly manager for Mrs Sceats, of the British Hotel, has been arrested, charged with rape on^ Mrs Sceats' daughter, a girl under twelve years of age. The offence is said to have been committed last April, lie has been remanded.
Marshall, the actor, opened to a crowded house on Saturday.
