SOUTHREN CROSS.
No 1 winze on specimen leader is down 60 feet from battery level. The leader is about 4 iuches thick, is well mineralised, and shows gold ifrequently. Should the shot of gold descend, the best way to work this leader would lie from the Big Pump 100 feet level, A few specimens are got occasionally in stopiug on the cross-leader, which is improving as it rises. It was said good gold had been got in an old shall near the Company's office, and the manager has put iwo men to work on it to try it. The quartz they are taking out looks very well, but as yet shows no gold. WAIOTAHI. This mine has suffered considerable damage by the flood in the Waiotahi creek. The water has soaked into the mine, and it is now 6 inches deep over the flatsheets, so that the truckers are working in water. The water has risen two inches since last night, and operations in the mine will hare* to be suspended if it rises much more. QUEEN OF BEAUTY. The work of getting the boilers, cylinder, &c, into position is now completed, and it is now possible to work the pump by either water or^steam. There are several tributes in this mine still unlet, and those on the look out for work are thus presented with an opportunity of getting it. GOLD EETUKNS. City of Litchfield.—A parcel of gold from this claim weighing sozs 15dwts was banked to day.
