INQUEST.
An inqnest was held at Mr Dod's hotel in Shortland this afternoon on the body of Thomas Hanley, who died suddenly this morning, before Dr Kilgour, Coroner, and the following jury :—P. Norbnry, (foreman) Adam Sherlock, J. Verral, W. Mcuain, W. Lomas, W. J. McKee, 3: Cruun, W. Lincoln, J. R. Sawyer, B. Ambre, JN. Weston, and W. Southgate.
Dt (j. H. Huxtable, sworn, deposedHe made a post mortem examination. at • the body of the deceased, and found a rupture below the right groin, which had caused a tumour about six inches long to form. He then opened the abdomen, and found the intestines in a state of. mortification near the rupture.- They' were fS black in colour, gangrenous, and easily - torn. He attributed death to mortification of the bowels, caused by obstruction : in the intestines. He did not examine the heart, considering the state of the ;. "% bowels quite sufficient to account for death. Intemperate habits would predispose to the mortification. .'••.■
