WELLINGTON.
This day. News has been received hero from Brisbane of the death of Major Heaphy, an old and respected settler of New Zealand, and for years a resident of Auckland.
At a meeting last night, it was decided to establish in Wellington, a branch of the Irish National Land League, and several members were enrolled.

The case of Alexander Brogden, Henry Brogden, and James Brogden, suppliants, against Her Majesty the Queen, respondent, came before Mr Justice Richmoud in Chambers this fiiomiug. The supplicants appeared to show cause why all proceedings in this action should not be stayed on the grounds, mainly, that claims in the p^tition were disputed within clause 32 of the general conditions of contract set out in the second count, and that such claims ought to be. -jjssjub- ■ mitted to arbitration in the manner directed by ''The Government 1 Contractors- Arbitration Act, i?7§" After hearing the argument, His Honor reserved his decision.
