Sir George Grey's motion for a select committee to revise the Estimates completely took the House by surprise last night. The. session, so far as want of confidence motions are concerned, has been a series of surprises, and it is rumored that there are several yet in store —notably that of which I advised you the other day, to be brought forward when the Representation Bill is before the House.

The Nelson and Westland members had a meeting yesterday, when it was resolved that Mr G-isborne should move to the effect that the basis of redistribution of seats as proposed hy the Government was unsatisfactory. It was further resolved that if the Bill got into Com mittee in] its present form, it should be opposed at every stage.
