WELLINGTON.
This day.
The Civil Servants throughout the colony will be glad to learn that the ten per cent deducted from their July salary will be returned. Mr Hall said this would be done " if the House permitted," and it is quite evident that it was in the humor to do so.
Major Parris' alleged business connection with Hone Pikama has always been looked upon with suspicion, more especially since such large land awards have been made to the latter by the West Goast ttoyal Commission. Yesterday Mr Rollesten in reply to a question on the subject, alleged positively that no such business relation existed. The matter is to be further ventilated.
Tbere was an immense waste of time yesterday in the House over Weston's Flogging Bill. From the first it was evident it could not pass, yet the debate was prolonged until 2 a.m, when it was thrown out on its second reading by twenty-three to nineteen. In further loans the Crown Agents in London will not act for this colony. This is in consequence of a despatch from Earl Kimberley pointing out the inconvenience of Crown Agents acting for colonies having responsible Governments, they having been appointed to transact the business of Crown Colonies only
The securities held by the public Trust Office on June 30 last, amounted to £102,315, the nominal value being apparently well founded. There are rumours ot another want of confidence motion within the next few days, which will probably be directed against the financial proposals.

Auckland, This day,
Private advices from Wellington state that Mr John Sheehan is likely to join the Ministry. If such follows, your district ought to get a little more attention in the way of well deserved public expenditure.
AN ADDITION TO THE LEGAL PRO
SESSION.
A brother of J. M. Shera Esq., Italian Consul, and one of our principal merchants, has arrived in Auckland. Pie is an English barrister, and after an examination before His Honor, Mr Justice Gillies in New Zealand law will enter on his profession. Mr Suera has the reputation of being a very able practitioner, and was specially engaged in some weighty cases before coming to New Zealand.
The Auckland lawyers have been intending to go (or the Hon Mr Whitaker over a recent judical appointment being conferred outside the usual run of profession, but have let him off for a little. The feeling, however, is spreading and will be quietly but surely felt when the period of political excitement comes round. Naughty Auckland lawyers! when you should well repollect that the only duty which the Attorney-General has to do is merely to draft bills which may require any amount of hard study but never any copy. The Herald's Wellington correspondent I hear, has got the route. It i 3 time Rous was routed. No doubt, Oakley Browne will take a hint and possiby he also will be a little more careful in the wording of his telegraphic despatches, otherwise, instead of O. Browne, it may be O, get out.
Private telegrams from W&llington
state that Cardinal Mcllhone is working the oracle for all those Thames fnend.B for whom he had to execute commissions after his arrival in the Empire City. I hope he will grind his owti axe before he leaves Port JSTic , as he absolutely deserves Cull compensation for loss of office and subsequent official bad treatment. Your old friend, Mr James Mackay. intends contesting 0113 of the Thames seats. The Baron, the Colonel, and other aspirants had better put their war paint ou at once.
