Old and young may take it at all hours and times when requisite. Thousands of persons testify to it marvellous good effects and wonderful cures, while medical men extol its virtues most extensively. CHLORODYNE is admitted by the profession to be the most wonderful and valuable remedy ever discovered. T Davenport that he had received information to the effect that the only remedy of any service in Cholera was Chlorodyne.—See Lancet^ Dec 31, 1864. From A. Montgomery, Esq., lute Inspector of Hospitals, Bombay :—" Chlorodyuo is most valuable remedy in Neuralgia, Asthma, and Dyseutery. To it I fairly owe my restoration to health, after 18 months' severe suffering, and when other remedies had failed." Dr. Lowe, Medical Missionary in India, reports (Dec. 1865) that in nearly every case of Cholera in which Dr. J. Collie Browne's Chlorodyne was administered the patient recovered. QTEEDMAN'S SOOTHING POWDERS O roa CHILDREN CUTTING TEETH. CAUTION TO PURCHASERS. The value of this well known Family Medicine has been largely tested in all parts of the world, and by all grades of society, for up wards of FIFTY YEARS. Its well-earned extensive sale has induced SPURIOUS IMITATIONS, some of which in OUTWARD APPEARANCE so closely resemble the original as to have deceived many purchasers. The proprietor therefore feels it due to the public to give a special caution against the use of SUCH IMITATIONS. Purchasers are therefore requested carefully to observe the four following distinctive characteristics, without which none are genuine;— 1st —In every case the words JOHN STEEDMAN, CHEMIST, WALWORTH SURREY, are engraved on the Government Stamp affixed to each packet. 2nd —Each Single Powder has directions for the dose, and the words, John Steedman, Chemist, Walworth, Surrey, printed thereon. 3rd —The name Steedman is always spelt with two EE's. 4th—The manufacture is carried on solely at Walworth, Surrey. SMITH (The only legally-qualified medical man advertising), con suits — On ail affections of the Nervous System) no matter from what cause arising). On all broken-down constitutions. On all diseases arising from early indiscretions. On Gout. On Rheumatism. In these colonies those excesses which we have indulged in " hot youth " tell upon us with fearful interest. Our regrets are useless, our repining futile. The sole idea should be the chance we possess of remedying the ills we already have, for combatting the effects likely to. result. Hide it as he may, put on as go«d a.n exterior as he can, still is the victim conscious that he is a living lie, and that sooner or later his vices v/ill discover him to the world. Our Faith, our obligations to society at large, the welfare of our future offspring, and the duty, we owe to ourselves forbids procrastination, and points out to us, not to wait till the ravages break out in our constitutions. Before negotiating with a merchant, before engaging with a confidential clerk; before employing a barrister, a careful man makeß enquiries as their standing, their length of occupancy or residence j and, in the case of a legal adviser, both as to his legal qualifications and aa to his capabilities of transacting the individual business he consults him upon. Strange to say, however, in the selection of medical man, the sufferer frequently omits these necessary precautions and without regard to the fitness, qualification, experience and ability for the particular ailment requiring treatment, he consults the nearest manfc whose experience and practice, perhaps, Hob in quite an opposite direction., Is it astonishing tb,at so many are driven mad, aye rained in.health, and are bankrupt in spirits, hope and money ? Have I not for years pointed out to them that I, Dr L. L. Smith, am the only legally qualified medical man advertising in the Colonies ? Have I not also prosecuted, at my own expense, these very quacks, and exposed the various nostrums they are selling,—such as Phosphodyne Essence of Life, &c. —and had them analysed and found them to consist of "Burnt Sugar and flavoring matter," and the certificates 3 have peoved to be all forgeries. It is for this reason that I step out of tho ethics of the profession and advertise, to give those who reauire the services of my branch an opportunity of knowing they can consult a legally qualified man, and one, moreover, who has made this his especial study. Dr L. L. Smith is the only legally qualified medical wan advertising, and he has been in Melbourne 24 years, in full practice on NERVOUS DISEASES LOSS OF POWER AND DEBILITY SYPHILITIC AFFECTIONS WANT OF CONDITION GOUT AND RHEUMATISM. Db L. L. SMITH can be consulted by letter —Fee, £1. Medicines forwarded to all the colonies. Db L. L. SMITH, 182 Collins street, East (Lat the Residence of the Governor) tfatBOTJBUB. 647
