In the House last night, Mr Weston moved the second reading of Offences Against the Persons Bill, the object of which is to provide that the consent on the part of a girl under the age of twelve years should not excuse an indecent assault, and that wife beating should be punished by flogging. DeLatour. Stewart, Sir George Grey, Lundon, Levistam, Seddon, Moss,.Pyke, Turnbull, and J. B. Fisher opposed the Bill, and Kolleston, Hall, Stevens, Pulton, Bowen, J. T. Fisher, Barron, and Keid supported it. The second reading was negatived on a division of 23 to 19. The House rose at 1.25.
