The idea that Irish-Americans, and especially Catholics j have no standing in tbe commercial world is a common but erroneous one. The fact is that on the Pacific slope there are ten Irish-Americans who own between them as follows :—J. W. Mackey, $150,000,000 ; Jas. C. Flood, $68,000,000; J. G. Fair, §50,000,000; Jj. ■ Coleman, successor to O'Brien, §50^)00,000: Peter Donohoe, §25,000,000; Uugh'M'Gkiire, §20,000,000; C. E. Crocker, §^0,000,000; Luke Uavanagh, $15,0()0,000 ; Gerald Malbne, $12,000,000 ; W. J. O'Jtieilly, $8,000,000; total, §418,000,000. All these men, with the single exception of C. Ev- Crocker, are Eomaa Catholics, and there are no ten itien of any nationality who can show such an amount of wealth as ttese ten Irish-•Americaiis'.^-San Francisco* Letter. The young man who hammers his thumb, nail this spring while putting down carpets, or'who is violently caught uuder the chin by a clothe«line when he goes out in the yard after dusk, should remember that in the revised edition of the new Testament the words have been changed to " hades" and " condemnation." - : .
