Sydney, This day. In the libel action brought by Pr Birmingham, Bornan Catholic priest nf Wagga Wagea, against the Sydney Evening News, defendants hare consented to a verdict for £50u. Bbisbane, This day. Three important libel actions are pending, one being brought by Mr Hemmant against the Observer for £5000 damages ; the other two informations are laid by Mr Coote, a journalist, and Mr Perkins, Secretary for Lands, againt the Evangelical Standard, damages being laid af, £1000 and £2000 respectively. A felegram is to hand from Eockhamptoa stating that a nurse-girl while walking with three children carelessly dropped one into the river, and then it is further alleged, drowned the other two in order to prevent their telling. An enquiry is being instituted by the police into the reported crime.
