TELEGRAMS.

(Pbesß Association.) AUCKLAND. This day. A Hokianga telegram says.—lt is reported here that the natives are fighting over a piece of land hajjtway between Kaikohe and Taheke, and shots have been exchanged, though it is not yet known with what result. Von «turmer and Constable Coughlan have left for the scene of the quarrel. These natives are the same who took part in the fi^ht at Otawa, in October 1879, when four lives were lott. They are the most lawless natives in the district. They need a severe lesson, but of course the authorities here are powerless to act without sufficient force. The row at present is confined to a few, and these declare their intention of fighting to the bitter end. The Union Sasli and Door Company have declared a dividend of 12J per cent. The Taupiri Coal dividend is 10 per cent. Lateb. Von Sturmer, Magistrate, has returned from the scene of the row between the native tribes near Hokianga. The dispute commenced over a cultivation. They erected pahs, and one man received a flesh wound in his thigh. The dispute is now settled and the natives have returned to their homes after agreeing to hand the land over to Von-Sturmer and Hone Mohi Tawhia. These are a quarrelsome lot of natives and will probably commence again in a few months. The wounded native intends to bring his case into Court.
