The Evening Star. PUBLISHED DAILY AT FOUR P.M. Resurrexi. SATURDAY, JULY 23, 1881.

A change is already coming over the spirit of the no-confidence debate, and some of those gentlemen who were the first to find fault with the Government are beginning to see the error of their ways. The Ministerial party are holding up again the "Old Bogee " in the person of Sir George Grey, and many members, like Mr Saunders, rather than see Sir George Grey, Mr Macandrew, and Mr Sheehan in power, would vote to keep in the present Government. While such feelings influence members of Parliament, we need not feel surprise at the result of any no-confidence debate, and in the present circumstances we are inclined to think the Government quite safe. The latest gossip from the Empire City says both sides count upon an equal number of totes, leaving only three doubt ful ones—three that very probably are just waiting for their price. The action of four men we remember placed the Government in power, and we have had no reason to lose faith in the men who used so much ingenuity to secure the Government Benches, or that the same ingenuity which secured it would, it occasion required, fail it to keep :the position they now hold. Yet there is growing in the minds of a great majority of the members a want of confidence in the men at present in the Ministry, and if the present attempt of Mr Ormond is not successful, no doubt others will be attempted, even if Sir George Grey's bill is shelved.
