RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT.

THIS DAY. (Before H. Kenrick, Esq., 8.M.) MOKBK V. RJ.H.A AI'KBAHAML. Claim, £8 16s 9d, board and lodging. Mr Brassey for plaintiff, and Mr Campbell for defendant. Defendant deposed that he had signed the order (produced.) It was for the amount claimed. Mr Coiner had purchased some land from him, and he had asked him to pay his debts. He had paid ,68 l^s on account, but had not paid the balance because it was owed by Pepcne. By Mr Campbell—Waea he pniil Ibe £8 Jus, plaintiff knew that the other share wa3 owing by Pepene. W. J. McEee deposed—The order produced was given to him by defendant, who had paid £§ ]Lss ou account. He never looked upon Pepene as responsible for the rest of the account, though defendant said something about it. He bad never told Mr Blain, who interpreted, to tell defendant that he held Pepeue responsible for the rest of the aceouut.

By Mr Campbell—He had charged the whole account to defendant, but Pepeue really owed for part of the bill. Defendant brought the other men to him, and told him to Aboard them, and he would be responsible. John Blain deposed fchat he was present when the £8 15s was paid to defendant. An order for £17 Os 9d was produced at the time. He told McKee that Reha would pay his own account and Pepeue his, and he seemed satisfied. After Mr Campbell had addressed the Court, His Worship gave judgment for amount claimed, and costs £1 14s. Court adjourned.
