The Evening Star. PUBLISHED DAILY AT FOUR P.M. Resurrexi. FRIDAY, JULY 22, 1881.

There appeared to be unusual interest taken in the proceedings of the Magistrate's Court to-day. The information against the brewers for breaches of the Beer Duty Act were heard, and during the whole time of hearing the Court was ■crowded. From, our report it will be seen Ithat Mr Hogg got fined £20 and costs for neglectiug to cancel a stamp placed upon a cask of beer, while the information against Mr Ehrenfried was dismissed. Upon the Magistrate "giving this decision the public applauded, and a smile of satisfaction appeared upon every face. There seemed to be a large amount of sympathy felt for Mr Ehrenfried, who was put to all the annoyance and inconvenience by the spiteful and malevolent action of a man?for many years in his employ, but who he was called upon to discharge for misconduct. If the i provisions of any law of the land are broken, the British ''public like to see the matter taken up by the proper authorities, not through the action, and to gratify the the* spite of an informer, and from the evidence of the man Jennings, it was from a spiteful, revengeful feeling he informed against his late employer. .Mr Tyler handled very ably the case forj the defendant, and addressed the Court at considerable length, but did not call any evidence, the Magistrate accepting his reading of the Act, and dismisljyng the case. *
