This day. A telegram has been received thai the steamer Waiiatu is ashore at Paten. She is expected to bo got off this evening. The Penguin, which arrived from Napi-o-r this morniug after a 39 hours' passage, mot with very severe weather: i>ne of her boats was carried off the stocks add stove in rendering it useless, and damage was also done to the skylight and part of the woodworks. The severity of the gale interferes with the shipping busi ness, and the departures of all the small steamer is postponed. The Mohaka, which left Blenheim at midnight at Monday, has not yet arrived, and it is thought she has taken shelter in Port Underwood. The top-sail schooner Maggie Patterson ran ashore at the Heads, near the Lighthouse, this morning. The pilot was unable to cross to her owing to the heavy sea running, but the signal has been hoisted from the scene of the disaster that her crow was saved. She is 81 tons register, and is believed to be owned by J. Anderson, and two others, of Dunedin. It is not known from what port she came but it is thought from the South with breadstuff's. She is insured in the National for £1200, of which £450 is re-insured in the New Zealand. A strong southerly gale is blowing. Later. .Th&Maggie Patterson is from Grey-motUfcr-to Dunedin with coal, and is owned by Messrs Keith,' Bamsay, and Co., of Dunedin. The captain'mentioned that the vessel is not likely to be much damaged.
