CURE. Very slow progress is being made in the drive on the cross-leader running at right augles to the one worked by Clark and party, owing to the hardness of the country. At present there are only two men working on the stopes, and the sluff from them is very heavily mineralised and looks well for gold, though as yet but little of the precious metal has been seen. The manager will not touch the hangingwall leader just yet, as he wants to get out some gold bearing stone before doing any more prospecting. OLD GOLDEN CALF. Work is suspended ia this mine, owing to there being no water for the winding engine. There is no change in the workings to report. Crushing will be resumed as soon as the battery is able to NEW GOLDEN CROWN. The mine manager's report is as follows; —" At the 100 feet level, No. X reef, the leading stope has been carried along a distance of 60 feet to the northwest of the main winze from the battery level, and is still being carried along. I intend to withdraw the men from the intermediate level, and start them on this reef at the same level. This reef is much split up at present, into three or four veins. The footwall branch, main vein, shows gold freely. Stoping is also progressing on the southeast of winze, with payable results.
