A respectable newspaper is ; suppose^ to tal?e every means of gathering and disseminating the truth respecting all matters of public importance, and I woql4 ask impartial readers of the Advertiger whether that paper has not wilftjUf , distorted the truth respecting the Waihi luckily without doing any rr^«fy,. great harm, the prospects being too good aad substantial to be affected by the designs of any evil dufpofsd person, be he editor of a newspaper or not. Why, sir, this mendacioui) reaper must in to-day's report of the Martha's crushing untruthfully publish the valae ' of the gold as d@3 7s 6d, whereas the " assay of Mr Heron was £i 14t 6d,'the price paid by the Bank of New' Zealand for the parcel.
