PARLIAMENTARY GOSSIP.

[By Telesbaph.]

(FBOM OUE SPECIAL COBBESPONDENT.) Wellington, This day. I am in a position to give a denial to the statement circulated in Wellington to day, and for political purposes telegraphed to many parts of the Colony, to the effect that Mr Wakefield had been taken into the Cabinet. The Premier f>ives it a significantly emphatic denial, and I believe no man is more completely out of the running for years to oome. It is understood that the Redistribution of Seats will be on the following basis j — The number of souls constituting a city or town electorate is to be 6600, and for a country district 5000. On the basis of 6600 souls for a town, and 5000 for a couutry electorate, the North Island ?s entitled to 35J,. and the Middle Island to 55|, the hajfinember being given to the North Island, which will have 36 and the Middle Island 35 members. The Thames electoral district will include the Borough and the Parawai Highway District, Ooro mandel getting a member, and having the entire district from the Cape to the borough of Thames. ]?rom j?arawai to Tauranga, to the eastward of the river, forms the Tauranga electorate. Waikato takes in the west side of the Thames River.

At a meeting of goldfield's members it was resolved to bring forward lhe following motion : " That it is expedient the duty oa gold be abolished, and Government bring in a Bill accordingly." A preliminary caucus of the Opposition was held yesterday for the purpose of influencing the poming ejections. A fill caucus will be held immediately.
